Visual assessment of commercial drivers in the South West Region of Cameroon

Abstract Background Driving is a visually intensive task. In Cameroon, where the burden of road traffic deaths high, visual assessment not universally performed before issuance driver licenses. This study aims to assess status commercial drivers (CDs) in southwestern region and find its relation crashes (RTCs). Methods work was cross-sectional community-based on CDs Limbe Buea. Questionnaires were used sociodemographic parameters, incidence RTCs, self-reported status. Visual acuity (VA) measured using standard Snellen chart at 6 m. Statistical analysis descriptive methods: frequencies, paired Student’s t-test, chi-square test. Results Two hundred seven enrolled this study, all which male, with mean age 41.8 ± 12.1 years. A total 15.0% had undergone an eye exam prior licensure, 3.4% within past 10 The VA better-seeing participants less than 6/9 6/12 14.1 10.6% CDs, respectively. Seventy-five percent poor vision 95% < 0.5 history RTCs compared 55.8% good 55.7% ≥ ( p 0.05).
